1. Why does the carpet by our garage door get dark before anything else in the house?

   That's the most common thing we see in Simi Valley homes. In these one-story and split-level tracts the garage is the door everybody uses. All the fine dust and decomposed granite that blows in through the pass gets tracked onto the same three or four feet of carpet. It's abrasive, gritty soil rather than greasy soil, so it grinds down into cut pile and dulls the fiber. We pre-treat and agitate those lanes separately before the main pass, and we'll usually suggest a mat inside the garage entry to catch the worst of it.

2. Our Berber shows traffic lanes that never seem to vacuum out. Can that be fixed?

   Usually a good part of it, yes. A lot of the later-80s and 90s tracts here have Berber or low-pile loop in the halls and family rooms. Loop construction traps dry grit down at the base of the loop where a vacuum can't reach. What looks like a permanent gray lane is often soil still sitting in there. Hot water extraction with proper pre-conditioning pulls a lot of that out. What we can't reverse is fiber that's already been physically abraded or fuzzed by years of dry grit, and we'll tell you which one you're looking at before we start.

3. How soon can you get out here, and do you ever do same-day?

   Most Simi Valley jobs get scheduled within a few days. Same-day is often possible if you call early in the day and we have a gap in the route. Same-day tends to be easier midweek than on weekends. If it's a smoke or ash situation after a fire event, or a spill you want handled fast, say so when you call. We'll work you in as soon as we can rather than putting you in the normal queue.

4. Ash and smoke got into the house during fire season. Does carpet cleaning actually help with the smell?

   It helps, and with the brush surrounding this valley it's a call we get regularly. Fine ash settles deep into cut pile and holds odor, so vacuuming alone doesn't do much. We do a thorough dry pass first to lift as much particulate as possible, then extract with a treatment aimed at the odor rather than just masking it. Be aware that carpet is only one of the places smoke settles. If the smell is also in drapes, upholstery, or the HVAC, cleaning the carpet won't get you all the way there on its own.

5. What decides the price, and how do I find out what mine will be?

   The estimate is free and you get a firm quote before any work starts. What moves the number is the square footage and how many rooms, the carpet type (Berber and low-pile loop take different handling than cut pile), how heavily the garage-entry lanes and hallways are soiled, and whether there's pet treatment, spot work, or smoke odor work involved. Stairs and split-level landings are priced separately from open floor area. We'd rather look at it and quote it accurately than guess over the phone.
